About Us

The Light Academy recognizes that every child is a gift from God, and we partner with parents to teach children to love God, to love others as God loves us, to excel in academics, to be good problem solvers, and to work cooperatively with others towards a common goal whether it be an academic project, a community service project, or to resolve a conflict.

The Light Academy strives to provide a quality Christian education for day students and  to share resources, provide support, and provide collaboration with parents of home school students.  This includes providing joint school and home school activities, field trips, and community service projects for both day students and home school students. The vision is to grow to a K-12  academy.

The Light Academy a non-denominational community Christian school and home school cooperative founded on the scripture Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world.  A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on it’s stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

The Light Academy started it’s first year in the fall of 2014 with 17 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th. We held classes in a rented space in a local shopping center.  We had very little money, but God provided in ways we never expected.  From students to staff to equipment, computers, and furniture, God provided.  In the spring of 2015 we purchased our 21 passenger bus which we still use today.  It was a remarkable, faith building, and joyful year!

Our second year 2015-2016 began with additional staff due to an unexpected growth of 45 students.  We also added a second building in the shopping center which provided two additional classrooms.  Every step of the way, we praised God for His blessings, and we waited for His leading!  Through our spring fundraiser we raised enough money to purchase a full size school bus, laptop computers, and a second projector.   God led and blessed us in ways we could have never seen or planned.  We  were so grateful!

In our third year 2016-2017, we added high school classes – 9th and 10th grades.    God blessed us with an experienced talented high school teacher for this new program.  Our enrollment continued to grow, and we continued to provide our unique Christian education to our students. Space was getting limited, but our teachers were flexible and would move to different rooms to accommodate the size of class they were teaching for a particular subject.  It’s wasn’t so much about the space as it was the instruction that took place in the space.   God was good to us and continued to lead and bless.

We are in our fourth year 2017-2018, and we have had many exciting things already, and we are planning some exciting things in the spring!  First, we  formed a friendship with another Christian school in our area, Calvary Christian School in New Canton, to do an intramural program for our students.  They invited our middle and high school students to participate on their soccer and basketball teams.  We greatly appreciated the opportunity to have some sports options for our students.  Secondly, God gave us the opportunity to purchase the former Cunningham School building in December. During the Christmas break, we moved from our 3,000 square foot rented buildings to a 22,000 square foot building located on 12 acres!  It was truly a God-led blessing!  While moving during Christmas break was a crazy big task, God blessed and provided volunteers, parents, and students to help!  We are finishing our spring semester in our “new to us” building!  God has been so good to us, and we are so grateful to Him!  We are getting ready to open preschool classes at the end of February or early March and start a track program in the spring for area Christian school students and home school students to join.
